Troop 108, Hershey, Pennsylvania, has been sponsored by St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Hershey for more than 50 years.
Our Troop is a faith-based organization that provides camaraderie and opportunities to develop leadership skills. In addition, our boys learn and practice outdoor skills like camping, cooking, fire-building, orienteering, knot-tying, and care for the environment.
Troop 108 meets year-round. Our regular Scout meeting times are Mondays, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Additional activities such as camping and hiking typically take place on weekends.
Our Troop is boy-run and operates by the Patrol method. That is, our Scouts are divided into groups called Patrols, with each Patrol being organized to provide a flow of information and division of Troop responsibilities. Our Scouts plan and implement the Troop’s yearly program, with guidance and mentoring from adult leaders. The Troop Committee facilitates the boy-led method by supporting the program and providing oversight according to the rules and policies of the Boy Scouts of America.
Troop 108 has many opportunities each year to provide support to our community. Some of our service activities have included:
- Scouting for Food and Clothing, in support of the Hershey Food Bank
- Assistance at the local Red Cross blood drive
- Barbecue Fundraiser for the Kidney Foundation
- Placement of flags on deceased veterans’ graves for Memorial Day
- Decoration of our St. Joan of Arc Church and grounds with lights
- for Christmas
- Dunking Booth at St. Joan of Arc Parish Festival, in support of St. Joan of Arc School
Each year, our Scouts plan their activities for the coming year. Some of their chosen activities have included:
- Whitewater rafting
- Indoor rock climbing
- Skiing and snowboarding
- Hershey Bears games
- Bus trips to historical sites
Several times a year, we invite Webelos to join us for camping and other recreational activities so that they can learn more about or Troop and the Boy Scout program.
All of our Scouts are strongly encouraged to attend Boy Scout summer camp.
